AWARD-WINNING UTAH WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER AND OIL PAINTER
AN AWARD WINNER IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY &
PAINTING INDUSTRY
In 2024, Utah wildlife photographer, Linda Dalton Walker, was awarded Highly commended in the Urban Bird category by Bird Photography of the Year. In this international competition out of 23,000 entries, 60 were selected to be awarded, and Linda was one of those chosen. Her awarded image was of a family of mallards, where the mother is shooing her young ones away from an awaiting cat. Over two billion birds are killed annually in North America by domestic cats. Dalton’s hope was to help cat owners see the hazards of allowing their domestic cats to roam the neighborhoods. As a result of this award, UK’s Conker Magazine reached out to interview Walker and her life as a wildlife photographer.
In 2025, her painting of a Peahen, won two prestigious awards in two separate gallery exhibits. In the exhibit at the Alpine Art and Frame, "Honoring Utah Artists,” Walker won the notable award of best of show. In another exhibit sponsored by AAUW (American Association of University Women), Linda took first place in the best of Fine Art category. Dalton painted this piece to reflect the underrepresented female birds in paintings and photography.

Exploring Costa Rica
Driving to the Bougainvillea Hotel from the airport with a total stranger is definitely a trust I was beginning to question. The ride was a bit eye-opening, and I realized I had no idea really where I was, and the area we were driving through looked very rough. Suddenly, we reached the beautiful hotel surrounded by four acres of lush gardens. Whenever I travel, I start to feel very small in the world, and it makes me appreciate even more where I live…

Snow Geese: Delta Utah
For the past four years, a friend of mine and I have been traveling two hours from our home to Delta, Utah, around the end of February to see if we can find the Snow Geese who are migrating through the area. We have been successful 3/4 times. The time we didn’t see them had been an exceptionally warm winter, and they must have headed north before we arrived. The geese migrate thousands of miles each year between their breeding ground in the Arctic and their wintering grounds in the lower United States and Mexico…
Great Salt Lake & Her Birds
How can I help you fall in love with Great Salt Lake? My love for this saline inland sea runs deep and hold memories embedded in the layers of my skin. There are various sections of our lake which calls to me and just being there makes me giddy with joy, near tears over the beauty and the starkness of this fragile ecosystem.
As a wildlife photographer and nature seeker, my eye has turned towards GSL and the 10 million birds who rely on us for our lake’s survival. Over the years I have experienced and photographed Great Salt Lake through a variety of transportation modes: floating in her waters, walking through the mud and shallow water from the river’s edge to the lake’s shore, by airboat, and hopefully soon by a small Cessna, and kayak.
Please let me know if you have any questions as you peruse the images I have captured of Great Salt Lake and her birds.

ROAMING WILD IN ALASKA
This was the year; I could feel it in my soul, Alaska was calling. I decided to explore the Kenai Peninsula with the hope of finding Puffins, Dall Sheep, Mountain Goats, Whales, and Glaciers. I flew in a float plane, soared in a helicopter, and skimmed rough waters in a small boat, and I found all of the animals and landscapes my heart desired. It was an adventure of a lifetime.

WILD HORSES IN UTAH
Driving in Utah’s West Desert, spraying a fine sheet of dust behind me, I search for the Wild Onaqui Mustangs that have been in this region since the late 1800s. I know it is a gamble as to whether or not I will find them, and many times I have added over 100 miles just searching for the two herds of up to 100 each. A smile spreads across my face, weary from leaving camp earlier in the day, as I come upon a herd. Parking my truck and grabbing my Nikon camera, long lens, and tripod I begin photographing the intimate relationships between the horse families and the staggering conflict displayed in the fierce fighting for dominance between the stallions.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Linda has an affinity for birds, and one can often find her in various wetlands wherever she visits, photographing our avian neighbors of the area. Dalton has often joked that she wants a bumper sticker that says: Will Stop for Birds. Take a look at the various birds she has captured from her home state of Utah, throughout the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica.
