Willet, Huntington Bay, California. As I was boating in a kayak with one of my sons at low tide so I could photograph shore birds, we drifted fairly close to this Willet, enough so that we could see the drip of water streaming off its beak. There must be something about being in the water with the birds in a stopped kayak that is non-threatening because we were able to get much closer than I thought was possible.
