Sicily, Italy Wildlife Print | Greater Flamingos, Vendicari Nature Reserve Ruins, Sicily, Italy

$150.00

About the Artwork

  • The Story: This captivating landscape photograph features the weathered remains of an ancient Phoenician-era ruin resting on a tiny island within the coastal marshlands of the Vendicari Nature Reserve in Sicily. A diverse community of native shorebirds has completely reclaimed the stone monument, with a solitary Greater Flamingo captured low to the ground just as it touches down beside the structure. As a wildlife nature conservation photographer, documenting these resilient species nesting and roosting on centuries-old archaeological structures highlights the unique ways European wildlife intertwines with human history inside Italy's protected wetland sanctuaries. Read the full, adventurous backstory behind my trek through the Mediterranean marshes in my latest [Conservation Blog Post], or explore the entire series across my online [Shop Birds of a Feather Collection].

  • The Technique: Captured on location using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens, carefully maneuvering the heavy telephoto barrel within the restrictive cuts of a fixed wetland blind to lock a sharp focus on the textures of the stone building while letting the surrounding birds draw the viewer's eye deeper into the frame.
