The Story: This dynamic wildlife photograph captures a majestic Greater Flamingo gliding low over the water as it begins its approach to land near a long, resting strand of its flock at the Saline di Priolo Nature Reserve in Sicily. Photographed from a significant distance to respect the birds' boundaries, the frame highlights the graceful coordination required as these large waders execute a landing, which often demands a brief running stride across the shallows to safely bleed off their flight speed. The Technique: Captured from a far-off vantage point using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens, using a stable tripod inside a fixed wetland blind and an ultra-fast shutter speed to sharply lock onto the wingspan of the low-flying flamingo.
