About the Artwork
The Story: This captivating wildlife photograph captures an exquisite Amazonian Motmot perched on a tree branch, showcasing its light bluish-green plumage, vibrant yellow breast, and striking dark mask around its eyes. Wandering the grounds of San Jose in search of unfamiliar tropical species, I initially spotted the bird heavily camouflaged and peeking out from behind dense canopy branches. Patiently tracking its movements paid off beautifully when the bird hopped onto a clear branch completely almost free of obstructing twigs, revealing its full, magnificent profile against the surrounding jungle growth. The Technique: Captured on location using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, using a steady visual stakeout to pin a razor-sharp focus on the motmot's distinctive eye mask the moment it emerged from the thick foliage branches.
