About the Artwork
The Story: This intimate wildlife photograph captures a striking yellow and gray Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher sitting perfectly nestled inside its hand-woven home, tucked securely within a deep tree crook near the Savegre Mountain Lodge. Staging a hidden position to document the bird's tireless journey, I framed this close-up view to focus on the nesting structure, which the industrious bird meticulously crafted out of thick, native moss collected from the surrounding cloud forest canopy. As a wildlife nature conservation photographer, documenting these vulnerable breeding cycles highlights the profound importance of preserving Costa Rica's high-altitude montane forests, which provide essential, undisturbed nesting resources for endemic regional species. The Technique: Captured on location using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, using smooth panning tracking to follow the bird's rapid flights before pinning a razor-sharp close-up focus on the quiet textures of the bird and its mossy nest.
