About the Artwork
The Story: This exhilarating wildlife photograph captures a rare moment during our return journey from Fremont Island as a wild coyote bolted at full speed across the shallow, greenish waters right in front of our airboat. The speed of the run kicked up beautiful, dancing tufts of spray that seem to leap across the surface of the lake. As a conservation photographer, capturing this iconic predator in such an unusual, stark aquatic environment highlights the diverse and surprising wildlife that depends on the Great Salt Lake for survival. The Technique: Captured handheld from a fast-moving airboat using a high-resolution Nikon D780 camera and a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. Because I had my camera locked into my harness and my settings ready, I utilized an ultra-fast shutter speed to perfectly freeze the rapid action of the sprinting coyote and the explosive, crystal-clear droplets of water spraying behind it.
