About the Artwork
The Story: This intimate nature photograph captures a moment of unexpected, quiet magic at the start of an uphill trek on Fremont Island. Resting among the ground cover is a grouping of ancient rocks, anchored by a prominent, heart-shaped metamorphic stone marked by a distinct mineral band cutting right across its center. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these small, hidden details helps tell a complete, gentle story of the lake's rich, ancient environment. The Technique: Photographed handheld on location using a high-resolution Nikon D780 camera paired with a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. To emphasize the fascinating contrast between the hard, ancient heart rock and the surrounding rocks, I chose a ground-level perspective with a precise, crisp focus. This approach highlights the intricate details of the stone's surface.
