About the Artwork
The Story: This dynamic landscape photograph captures our other expedition airboat slicing through the unique, greenish waters of the Great Salt Lake on a chilly March morning, with the snow-dusted Stansbury Mountain Range rising in the far distance. Photographed from a parallel boat as we streamed toward Antelope Island, the composition beautifully highlights the dramatic wake of water spraying against a backdrop of sweeping clouds. As a wildlife conservation photographer, capturing these specialized modes of travel emphasizes the immense scale and remote nature of the environments we work to protect. The Technique: Captured handheld from a moving boat using a high-resolution Nikon D780 camera and a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. To counteract the vibrations of the engine and the rough wake, I utilized a specialized body harness and a high shutter speed to keep the rushing water droplets, the moving boat, and the distant mountain peaks crisp and sharp.
