The Story: This dynamic wildlife photograph captures a striking Great Kiskadee at the exact split-second it launches into flight, its rich brown wings unfurled upward against a dense background of jungle bushes overflowing with bright red berries. Braving a relentless tropical downpour, the vocal flycatcher reveals its vivid yellow underbelly and signature black-and-white striped crown as it charts a path through the storm. The Technique: Captured under heavy overcast and pouring rain using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens securely mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, employing a blistering shutter speed to cleanly freeze the upward sweep of the wings and individual raindrops.
