The Story: This elegant wildlife photograph captures the immense poise of a Greater Flamingo as it glides low from the left frame, preparing to join its flock gathered along a mudstrand at the Saline di Priolo Nature Reserve in Sicily. Traveling across the sky with their long necks and legs fully extended, these birds begin a beautiful anatomical transition upon landing, gracefully curling their necks to adjust their center of gravity as they drop toward the water.
