About the Artwork
The Story: This captivating wildlife photograph preserves a split-second encounter with a tiny female Black-crested Coquette hummingbird hovering elegantly before a vibrant purple flower. Catching a brief five-minute reprieve from a heavy rainstorm along a remote rainforest trail, I deployed my mobile setup right from my folding stool to meet this elusive little gem at absolute eye level. As a wildlife nature conservation photographer, documenting these incredibly rare, insect-like coquettes during their fleeting feeding rounds highlights the critical importance of preserving complex tropical understory flora throughout Central America's shrinking cloud forest corridors. The Technique: Captured from a low-profile seated position using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, employing a rapid tracking alignment to freeze the intense, razor-sharp gaze of the hummingbird mid-flight against a soft backdrop of dense greenery.
