The Story: This intimate, high-magnification wildlife portrait offers an incredibly close look at the soft plumage and tightly curled head of a resting Greater Flamingo at the Saline di Priolo Nature Reserve. Cropped tightly from a high-resolution frame, the composition strips away the surrounding marsh to emphasize the delicate, painterly gradients of pastel pinks and creams woven throughout the bird's fluffed feathers. The Technique: Captured through a fixed horizontal opening in a blind using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens, using the camera's internal DX crop mode at 750mm.
