Yellow Headed Blackbird, Wetland Call
I photographed this bird while on an airboat where we had also spotted some of their former nests. They build their nests over water, and are intricate long strands of wet vegetation that are woven into the reeds. They are about 5-6 inches across and about the same height. The inside measures about 3” x 2.5” Fun Note: The call of these birds almost makes me cringe. They sound as if a rusty old gate is being opened - a very loud screech.
