About the Artwork
The Story: This intimate wildlife photograph captures a White-Faced Ibis at the exact millisecond it was startled into flight from the shallow waters of Farmington Bay, its majestic wings raised so high that its unique, curved bill shows right through them. The dynamic composition beautifully preserves crystal-clear water droplets streaming off the shorebird's feet as it launches into the morning sky. As a wildlife conservation photographer, I practice strict ethical field techniques by sitting completely motionless along embankments to document these native species without disrupting their critical feeding and resting cycles. The Technique: Captured from a low, stationary position on an embankment using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a lowered tripod with a fluid gimbal head, using an ultra-fast shutter speed to freeze the fine details of the feathers and flying water droplets in sharp focus.
