Great Salt Lake Utah Photography Print | White Faced Ibis, Iridescent Colors
About the Artwork
The Story: This striking wildlife photograph captures the second frame in my flight series of a White-Faced Ibis over Farmington Bay, its wings now swept down over its body to reveal an exquisite display of hidden, shimmering colors. Because the brilliant green, bronze, and magenta iridescence of this species is nearly impossible to see from a distance or in flat light, this frame represents a rare moment where early morning sunlight hit the bird at the perfect mathematical angle. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these hidden, jewel-like details of native species helps foster a deeper public appreciation for the incredible biodiversity thriving within the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. Explore this and other conservation-focused avian images across my online [Shop Birds of a Feather].
The Technique: Captured from a stationary embankment using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, utilizing a high shutter speed and a spot-metering exposure to flawlessly preserve the bright, reflective metallic sheen of the bird's feathers against the morning sky.
