Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | Say's Phoebe, Farmington Bay
About the Artwork
The Story: This beautiful wildlife photograph captures a small Say's Phoebe perched quietly along a trail at the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area, bathed in a brilliant, golden morning glow. Encountered unexpectedly while exploring the trail, this resilient flycatcher represents a species that undertakes an epic annual migration stretching all the way from the Arctic tundra down to Central Mexico. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these active insect-hunters highlights the critical role that the Great Salt Lake's rich shoreline trails play in providing essential refueling corridors for smaller migratory songbirds. Explore this and other conservation-focused avian images across my online [Shop Birds of a Feather].
The Technique: Captured handheld for immediate reaction using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens. To lock onto the surprise subject before it took flight, I bypassed my tripod setup and relied on a fast shutter speed to sharply freeze the phoebe's fine feather definitions while letting the glowing morning sunlight softly melt the background trail into a warm, luminous backdrop.
