The Story: This intimate horizontal photograph captures a tiny Sanderling shorebird taking a well-deserved, brief nap on the wet sand after wearing itself out dashing back and forth with the ocean tides to forage for food. Photographed from a low, non-threatening perspective, the curious shorebird eventually grew comfortable enough to rest peacefully just a short distance from the lens. The Technique: Captured from a low, prone position on the wet sand using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens, stabilized by a low disk plate and fluid gimbal head to achieve an intimate, eye-level perspective without disturbing the wildlife.
