Cracks in the salty earth at Badlands, Death Valley National Park, California. I didn’t realize that when I arrived at the Badlands I would have to walk quite a distance to get to the cracks I was seeking to photograph. It is one of those walks that seems to go on and on because everything in the distance is white and a mirage. I sat down on the edge of the trail to capture this image.
