About the Artwork
The Story: Born out of pure artistic curiosity, this piece explores the surreal transformation of nature trapped in ice. Created in Utah, I fully immersed a classic rose in water and froze it solid, eager to see how the petals would warp and shift. Because ice begins to change the moment it hits room temperature, I had to act with extreme speed to capture the fleeting, abstract beauty of this lovely frozen blossom.
The Technique: Shot with a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph is an intimate study of contrasting elements. Zooming in tightly allows the frame to capture the raw, fractured textures of the ice crystals clashing against the soft, fluid form of the submerged pink and red petals.
