About the Artwork
The Story: There is an extraordinary, hypnotic geometry hidden within the multi-layered petals of a Ranunculus flower. Captured in my studio in Salt Lake City, Utah, this fine art photograph is a deliberate exploration of infinite depth and vibrant, fiery color. I was mesmerized by the tight, perfect spiral spinning outward from the flower's center. By isolating this single blossom against a dark background, the image creates a mesmerizing, high-contrast focal point that infuses a luxurious, energetic warmth into any modern living space or gallery wall.
The Technique: This photograph is a masterclass in advanced digital craftsmanship, combining two intricate techniques inside the studio. First, I utilized light painting, manually sweeping a specialized strobe light over the blossom to carve out soft shadows and highlight the velvet texture of the petals. Second, to achieve absolute centered sharpness with soft edges, I executed a focus stack of 11 distinct exposures. I captured 11 separate images, each focused on a slightly different depth point within the center of the flower, and meticulously merged them into a single, flawlessly sharp center with a flowing loose edge.

I use Masterlab, an independent, family-owned print lab located at 332 East 3300 South in Salt Lake City, as my professional printing and framing studio. Having trusted them with my fine art production for over 25 years, I guarantee every print is individually inspected for flawless color accuracy.
