American Avocet, Flying In
I painted this image from a photo I took while visiting Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge during a photo-journalist trip evolving around a recent art exhibit, Water Pilgrimage: Where the Rivers End. There were a few Avocets in the middle of the dirt road, so I took advantage of their road blockage and sat on the ground watching them fly and land on the road. I decided this would make a perfect painting of such a graceful bird.
