Frozen Purple Iris Botanical Print | Purple Rain

$150.00

About the Artwork

  • The Story: Working with the deep, saturated tones of a purple Iris (Iris) always yields dramatic results, but freezing the blossom in water introduces a whole new level of brilliance. As the petals underwent a rapid freeze, the rich violet pigments seemed to blossom and deepen under the ice, reacting in completely unexpected patterns. Looking closely at the finished fine art photograph, the suspended ice fractures and frozen columns mimic the motion of a sudden downpour, creating a striking visual rhythm that feels as if it is quite literally raining purple.

  • The Technique: Shot inside my studio with a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph captures an incredible sense of fluid motion locked in a crystalline state. The close-up composition highlights the delicate, paper-thin veins of the iris petals clashing against the rigid, glass-like boundaries of the ice, beautifully preserving a fleeting artistic reveal.
