Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | Porcupine, Antelope Island, Climbing Down
About the Artwork
The Story: This captivating wildlife photograph captures a North American Porcupine methodically climbing down a tree trunk on Antelope Island, its intricate quills beautifully highlighted against a soft, glowing green background. Most visitors are entirely surprised to learn that these unique, large rodents exist on the island, as they are typically encountered curled into stationary, sleeping balls high in the canopy. While conducting a patient search for local Great Horned Owls, I caught this rare active movement directly behind me, capturing a delightful glimpse of one of the island's most unexpected mammalian residents. Explore this and other conservation-focused wildlife images across my online [Shop Wildlife Collection].
The Technique: Captured from a steady position using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod. Hearing the rustle behind me while framing the canopy, I smoothly swiveled my fluid gimbal head to track the descending porcupine, utilizing a wide aperture to sharply resolve the crisp texture of its defensive quills while melting the background tree trunks into a dreamy, luminous green bokeh.
