Great Salt Lake Utah Photography Print | Mountains to the West

$1,000.00

About the Artwork

  • The Story: This striking winter landscape photograph captures the snow-covered Stansbury Mountains and frozen terrain reflecting under a pale, turquoise blue January sky. Born from a two-year collaborative project titled "Water Pilgrimage: Where the Rivers End," this image required a challenging seven-mile round-trip trek through 18-degree cold just to reach the heavily receded water line. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting this difficult-to-access winter landscape stands as a vital visual archive of our endangered inland sea. Read more about the project and its environmental mission featured in [News from the States] and [SLUG Magazine].

  • The Technique: Captured handheld on a freezing winter morning using a high-resolution Nikon D780 camera and a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. To preserve the soft, ethereal qualities of the pale turquoise sky against the high-contrast blinding white snow, I utilized a precise exposure balance to protect the delicate midtones and highlights across the freezing landscape.
