Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | Long Billed Curlew, Searching for a Meal
About the Artwork
The Story: This dynamic wildlife photograph captures North America's largest shorebird, the Long-Billed Curlew, as it lands across the expansive, grassy upland prairies of Antelope Island State Park. Several curlews were flying across the field, filling the morning air with their characteristically joyful, communicative calls as they searched for insects among the short grasses. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these unique birds highlights the vital importance of protecting both the open rangelands and the wetland boundaries of the Great Salt Lake watershed where they breed and raise their young. Explore this and other conservation-focused avian images across my online [Shop Birds of a Feather].
The Technique: Captured using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, allowing me to smoothly track the birds flying in and out of the prairie while maintaining a sharp focus on the curlew's remarkably long, downward-curved bill.
