About the Artwork
The Story: Born from a period of forced isolation when wilderness travel was restricted, this vibrant kaleidoscope print explores the hidden symmetry of everyday objects and archival memories. I looked at a striking photograph from my travels into the bright red and orange desert sands of Southern Utah and asked myself, "I wonder how this would work?" The resulting digital transformation reveals an intricate, mesmerizing geometry of rich ochres where pareidolia takes hold—unveiling what appear to be subtle faces emerging within the sand—embracing that wonderful element of artistic surprise that kept my creativity alive during a trying time. The Technique: This piece was created by taking an archival photograph originally captured with my Nikon D780, which was then meticulously mirrored and arranged into a 24” x 24” square digital matrix using Adobe Photoshop.
