About the Artwork
The Story: The vast abundance and sheer variety of desert plant life throughout Joshua Tree National Park is absolutely outstanding. While hiking along the rugged backcountry trails, I constantly found myself surprised by the unique botanical growth thriving right beneath my feet. I am often drawn to subverting expectations by casting a soft focus on plants that are traditionally sharp and linear. The flowing, graceful tendrils of this specific cactus inspired me to intentionally slow down my shutter speed and soften my focus, transforming a prickly desert native into a gentle, fluid dance of light.
The Design Impact: This compelling black-and-white photograph is designed to make a statement. It functions beautifully as a large, standalone focal piece on a primary wall, or arranged in a minimalist grouping alongside other soft-focus monochrome images.
