Frozen Iris Globe Fine Art Print | Sculptural Sphere

$150.00

About the Artwork

  • The Story: Part of my ongoing fascination with ice-encased botany, this particular Iris (Iris) completely redefined its own shape during the freezing process. As the blossom sat fully submerged in water, the petals spread outward in a magnificent, uniform arc, locking into a shape that took on the distinct appearance of a floating planetary globe. Working within this experimental medium means embracing a lack of total control, and I am always deeply surprised and delighted by the magnificent, sculptural geometry that is unveiled when a flower interacts with the ice.

  • The Technique: Captured inside my studio using a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph is a study in spherical symmetry. The precise composition isolates the expanding iris petals, using controlled studio light to pierce the ice layer and trace the intricate, vein-like structures radiating through the frozen bloom.
