In Line, White Faced Ibis, Great Salt Lake

$750.00

The coloring of the White-faced Ibis is iridescent. When they stand around in low light, they appear dull and brown, but once the light hits them or they take to the air, they glisten with a palette of colors so vibrant it would be difficult to count. I photographed these gorgeous birds while on an airboat in the middle of Weber Bay when the light hit them perfectly.

Their nests are flat platforms made of whatever vegetation is present at the site. For ground nests, they begin by bending down stalks of rushes or reeds and weaving them together. They then trim the platform with short stalks of plant material around the edges to create a cup. Some nests are less elaborate, little more than a pile of reeds. Nests built in trees over water are usually the most substantial, featuring a base of sticks and a more extensive mass of reeds or rushes. Nest dimensions can vary significantly; an average nest might be 15.4 inches across and 6.8 inches deep, with the interior cup measuring 9 inches across by 2 inches deep. (Information from All About Birds)

14.2” x 23” (Horizontal Format) Archival Pigment Print on Pearl Paper - Framed
