Great Salt Lake Utah Photography Print | Hawk Flying Over

$550.00

About the Artwork

  • The Story: This evocative winter landscape photograph captures a wild hawk soaring over a dense stand of invasive Phragmites reeds, framed by the snow-covered peaks of the Wasatch Mountains. Taken during my trek along the Jordan River delta to reach the Great Salt Lake, this image documents a split-second encounter with a predator hunting across a frozen, changing terrain. Created as part of the two-year collaborative project "Water Pilgrimage: Where the Rivers End," this piece highlights the fragile intersections of native wildlife and altered ecosystems. Read more about this environmental pilgrimage and our journey to find the receded water line in [News from the States] and [SLUG Magazine].

  • The Technique: Captured handheld on a freezing winter morning using a high-resolution Nikon D780 camera and a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. I utilized a fast shutter speed to freeze the sharp profile of the hawk in mid-flight while maintaining a crisp depth of field that preserves the complex textures of the snowy landscape and mountain backdrop.
