About the Artwork
The Story: These delicate purple pansies and their lush greenery are part of my dedicated series exploring the striking transformations of frozen botany. By fully submerging the plants in water and quickly freezing them overnight, I allow the ice to naturally reshape their composition. Waking up to photograph them the next day in the studio is always a moment of pure wonderment, as I never know exactly what intricate frozen textures or hidden patterns will be revealed.
The Technique: Shot with a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph captures an intimate look at flora trapped in time. Zooming in tightly allows the viewer to explore the rich contrast between the soft, velvety purple petals and the crisp, glassy boundaries of the ice, beautifully preserving the fleeting beauty of a winter freeze.
