About the Artwork
The Story: Guided by an experimental curiosity, I wondered if the intricate, multi-layered sections of a chrysanthemum would generate a denser network of oxygen bubbles during the freezing process. My instincts were correct. I anchored this blossom underwater, holding it perfectly secure as it underwent a 24-hour freezing cycle, and watched with fascination as the petals settled into a luscious, fluid composition frozen in time.
The Technique: Captured using a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this photograph is a study in precise studio timing. The morning after the freeze, I monitored the shifting morning light until the illumination was absolutely perfect, allowing my lens to capture the brilliant, sparkling field of trapped oxygen bubbles that formed across the pink petals.
