About the Artwork
• The Story: Part of a dedicated studio exploration into ice-encased botany, these fiery orange Marigolds (Tagetes) reveal the stunning unpredictability of nature. For this series, I completely submerged and rapidly froze the blossoms in water, locking their organic shapes away for a full 24-hour cycle. Returning to the studio the next day to photograph them was always an exhilarating process—I was constantly surprised by the unique patterns, frost pathways, and crystal structures waiting to be unveiled.
• The Technique: Shot with a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph captures an explosion of warmth trapped in ice. Zooming in tightly allows the lens to freeze a brilliant, sparkling galaxy of oxygen bubbles against the deep, layered textures of the vivid orange petals, creating an immersive field of color.
