Frozen Alum Botanical Print | Flowing
About the Artwork
The Story: Part of my ongoing exploration into ice-encased flora, this piece reveals the unexpected grace of local Utah botany when subjected to the element of frost. I fully submerged this Alum blossom (Heuchera) in water, locking it away for a full 24-hour freezing cycle. The resulting fine art photograph captures the delicate, fluid movement of the plant as the ice crystals bound around it, creating a beautiful, ribbon-like illusion of liquid motion frozen perfectly in time.
The Technique: Shot inside my studio with a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph captures an incredible level of micro-detail. The close-up composition isolates the intricate, structural veins of the Alum blossom, balancing the soft texture of the flower against the rigid, glass-like boundaries of the surrounding ice sheets.
