Fan Dance, Black Crowned Night Heron

$3,800.00

Many of my days are spent at various wetlands photographing birds, mammals, and the surrounding landscapes. I try to search out unusual posturing from the birds that would in turn render a more interesting photograph or painting. This Black-Crowned Night Heron showed up in our communal backyard pond one early morning. Grabbing my camera, I quietly followed it around photographing it until it finally flew off. During its photographic session, it stretched out its wing showing off its powerful legs, which looked like a fan dance to me. Back in my studio, I thought this image would make a dynamic, large scale oil painting. I adjusted the landscape, adding in one I had photographed from one of our local wetlands.
