Great Salt Lake Utah Phtography Print | Antelope Island in the Distance
About the Artwork
The Story: This majestic winter landscape photograph captures a jaw-dropping view of Antelope Island draped in snow, rising quietly in the far distance beyond the shallow waters of the Jordan River Delta. Reaching this vantage point required a punishing mile-long trek through frozen, knee-high cut Phragmites reeds and slippery mud flats where the ice-cold water occasionally breached my boots. Created for the two-year project "Water Pilgrimage: Where the Rivers End," this image celebrates a hard-won moment of successful connection with our endangered inland sea. Read more about the physical challenges and environmental mission of this trek in [News from the States] and [SLUG Magazine].
The Technique: Captured handheld on a freezing January morning using a high-resolution Nikon D780 camera and a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens. I utilized a precise exposure to perfectly capture the dappled winter light sprinkling across the foreground brush and shallow delta water while keeping the massive, snow-covered island tack-sharp on the horizon.
