The Story: This dramatic vertical landscape photograph follows a sharp, wind-sculpted ridge line cutting through the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park, guiding the eye toward a horizon of furious storm clouds and distant mountains. Standing on an adjacent, elevated crest while the fierce desert wind aggressively erased all human footprints behind me, I captured the exact fleeting moment a break in the heavy sky allowed a spotlight of sun to illuminate the sand ridge.
