About the Artwork
The Story: Working within the frozen floral medium means embracing a beautiful lack of total control. I am always filled with immense anticipation when I open the studio freezer to unveil a newly ice-encased bloom. The internal cracks, tracing frost lines, and erratic oxygen bubbles warp and reshape the flower in completely unpredictable ways. This fine art photograph captures a rich purple pansy (Viola) right at that moment of revelation, its delicate petals beautifully interacting with the harsh fractures of the ice barrier.
The Technique: Shot inside my studio with a high-resolution Nikon camera and a specialized macro lens, this digital photograph is an exploration of organic tension. The precise focus captures the crystalline texture of the fractured ice sheets directly clashing against the soft, fluid velvet of the purple petals, preserving a fleeting structural event before the thaw begins.
