The Story: This spectacular maritime photograph captures a tender moment between a Northern Gannet couple sharing an intimate touch on a small, isolated rocky platform jutting out from a massive sea cliff rookery in Newfoundland. Surrounded by thousands of nesting birds whose collective calls could be heard from over a half-mile away, this pair successfully carved out a rare, spacious ledge to construct their home while a third gannet watches quietly from the frame's edge. The Technique: Captured on location using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens securely mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, utilizing precise optical compression to sharply draw the nesting couple out from the chaotic, bustling textures of the surrounding colony.
