Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | Common Crow, Silhouette
About the Artwork
The Story: This bold, high-contrast wildlife photograph captures a Common Crow frozen in flight as it carries fresh nesting material across the stark sky near the Antelope Island Causeway. Intelligently adapting to human infrastructure, a community of these highly resourceful birds has established active nesting sites safely tucked beneath a concrete causeway bridge. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these urbanized nesting habits highlights the fascinating, resilient ways native corvids navigate and adapt to built environments surrounding the Great Salt Lake. The Technique: Captured using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, utilizing a spot-metering exposure focused on the bright sky to deliberately cast the moving crow into a sharp, velvety black silhouette.
