Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | Burrowing Owl, What?
About the Artwork
The Story: This captivating wildlife photograph captures an adorable Burrowing Owl surrounded by the warm, golden grasses of the Antelope Island uplands on a beautiful June morning. Peering back curiously as I photographed from my vehicle window to avoid disrupting its routine, the tiny owl turned its head completely sideways to scrutinize my lens in a delightfully expressive pose. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these unique, ground-dwelling raptors raises awareness for their vulnerable prairie habitats, which are increasingly threatened by development and human encroachment around the Great Salt Lake watershed. Explore this and other conservation-focused wildlife images across my online [Shop Birds of a Feather].
The Technique: Captured from a vehicle window blind using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens resting steadily on the window frame. I utilized a wide aperture and precise eye-detection tracking to keep the owl's striking yellow gaze and intricate feather patterns tack-sharp, while transforming the surrounding June grasses into a soft, golden blur.
