Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | Bison with Starling, Antelope Island, Hitching a Ride
About the Artwork
The Story: This powerful wildlife photograph captures a fierce, massive bull bison standing among a herd across the golden upland grasses of Antelope Island State Park, accompanied by two European Starlings hitching a ride on its back. Introduced to the island in the late 1890s, this historic herd has flourished to roughly 700 head, frequently interacting with local bird populations that forage alongside these massive grazers. As a wildlife conservation photographer, documenting these gentle symbiotic relationships between Utah's largest land mammals and smaller bird species highlights the complex, interconnected layers of the Great Salt Lake’s upland ecosystems. Explore this and other conservation-focused wildlife images across my online [Shop Wildlife Collection].
The Technique: Captured from a safe, respectful distance near my vehicle using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, using a precise exposure to resolve the thick, dark textures of the bison's coat against the bright, reflective golden grasses.
