Great Salt Lake Utah Wildlife Print | American Pelican, Nowhere Else to Go
About the Artwork
The Story: This powerful panoramic wildlife photograph captures a quiet line of American White Pelicans standing on a small, rocky outcropping near the Antelope Island Causeway beneath a hazy sky. For centuries of recorded history, these pelicans used the safety of Gunnison Island in the Great Salt Lake to breed and raise their young in isolation. Tragically, due to historically low water levels forming a land bridge that exposed the colony to land-based predators, the pelicans completely abandoned their ancestral home and are now living in a fragile state of ecological exile. Explore this and other conservation-focused avian images across my online [Shop Birds of a Feather].
The Technique: Captured using a high-resolution Nikon Z8 mirrorless camera and a powerful 200-500mm Nikkor zoom lens mounted on a stable tripod with a fluid gimbal head, utilizing a precise exposure to maintain sharp detail on the pelicans' white feathers against the vast, monochromatic backdrop of hazy sky and water.
