Yellowstone National Park, Black Bear

$150.00

Come adventure with me as you get to relive the encounter I had with a luminous Black Bear in Yellowstone National Park.

Driving around Yellowstone, trying to find wildlife, can sometimes be exhausting and dramatic at the same time. This natural habitat for many animal species is a vast 3, 472 square miles. The landscape can be filled with soft light, harsh light, early morning dew, fog and it can be moody or mysterious and sometimes downright hot or cold. As a wildlife photographer, I take all of this in stride, and hope for the best encounter of the day.

Then it happens, I round a corner and the road is filled with cars, and I just know something exciting is happening. This sunny afternoon, a shiny, luminous Black Bear was making its way up a golden hillside - right towards a group of people, who kept moving further and further back from the bear’s single-minded approach. Wildlife photography in Yellowstone is always surprising, and to be able to achieve a portrait of a Black Bear, thrilled me. I always keep wildlife’s safety (and my own) in mind, and stay back as far as is recommended by the national park, and I use a long 500mm lens that I can adjust to DX and then photograph at 750mm.

Shooting in the wild, nature photography is rewarding and typically the best time to photograph is in the early dawn or golden evening, but if a Black Bear in Yellowstone is walking up a hill in the afternoon, I do not miss the opportunity to photograph wildlife in the raw.

Bring Yellowstone National Park’s Black Bears into your home and enjoy the breathtaking natural wildlife as you add a sense of escape from your city life. Or add this rich piece into your cabin home, to bring the wild outside to the inside.
