Joshua Tree National Park, Sunrise Cholla Cactus Garden

$200.00

Cresting the hill leading to the Cholla Cactus Garden in Joshua Tree National Park at sunrise is a golden sight to behold.

Visualize yourself hiking through the Cholla Cactus Garden, trying to safely stay clear of the long spines on the teddy bear cholla cactus, so they don’t become part of your skin. This garden is in the Pinto Basin, and they flourish in this area because of perfect weather conditions.

My driving to photograph this garden started at 3:30 am in the pitch dark before dawn. Sunrise was supposed to be the best time to photograph this bewitching garden, and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity. After about an hour of driving, I was beginning to question the early departure. Then it happened, I crested a hill, and the valley was lit with golden spines of the Cholla Cactus, making my early arrival all worth the lack of sleep..

To ensure I captured a variety of photos for my collectors of nature photography and those who love our National Parks, I brought with me a variety of lenses. First, I photographed the grand landscapes with a wider angle lens to capture the backlit cholla cactus, then narrowed it down to the cactus with a different lens, and finally I used my macro lens to capture the up-close and intimate images of the spines and flowers of the cholla cactus.

Add some Joshua Tree National Park images to your collection and start some conversations around these intriguing plants.
