However, these gangly trees are not really trees, but giant, flowering monocots that will branch only after flowering. Their trunks are fibrous and not woody, which makes it difficult to determine their age. The Yucca moths are the insects who pollinate the gorgeous flowers of the Joshua Tree.
When I first arrived in Joshua Tree National Park, I was struck by the beauty of these trees and the unique way in which they grow. I wandered through the desert taking as many photos as I could of these trees in a variety of compositions.
