Death Valley National Park, Mesquite Sand Dunes, Leading Lines
Walk with me through the Mesquite Sand Dunes of Death Valley National Park, and ponder how the trees twist and grow to avoid being buried.
The leafless, stark trunks surrounded by the shifting sand blowing in the wind will cause you to stop and ponder just how all of these growing Mesquite Trees and Creosote Bushes do not get buried in the sand. The darkening purple sky with the layers of clouds hanging over Death Valley were a strong indication that a storm was quickly approaching.
Sit down with me as I am hiding amongst the dunes trying to avoid the swiftly blowing wind and the sand whipping up around me. Nature photography can be challenging and jaw dropping all in the same moment. I had to keep hiding my camera, so the fierce wind would not destroy the fragile mechanics. In this image I was sitting on the ground, so I could capture the leading line of the log in front of me, leading to the line of the branches moving toward the sky, which would then direct your eye skyward, and then noticing the sand blowing on the horizon.
Bring this moment of action into your home or office to help you visualize the dramatic weather of Death Valley National Park. This other image from my website would make a dynamic paring for your space.
