Death Valley National Park, Badwater Basin

$200.00

Feel the roughness and visualize the repeated patterns in the region of the Badlands in Death Valley National Park.

Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, presents us with a surreal landscape of geometric salt polygons. These unusual, and fascinating shapes are created where groundwater rises through salt deposits, followed by evaporation. This otherworldly basin is the remnant of the ancient Lake Manly, and sometimes, when there are heavy rains, the area temporarily fills with shallow water.

When I photograph landscapes, I try to present the view with an entirely different perspective. To photograph this highly textured image, I was lying prone on the salt encrusted path in this lowest point in North America, at 282 feet below sea level. My goal was to capture this surreal landscape by giving you a glimpse of the massive space this region covers.

Summers in this region can reach 134 degrees, so I decided to complete my landscape photography of Death Valley National Park in the month of November. This proved to be an excellent time to photograph this dramatic national park.

Although the temperatures were perfect, the wind ended up being an issue. Check out some of the other images I photographed during this time period at Death Valley so you can get a glimpse of the wind I had to deal with.
